Application for Houston Students

From its inception through our partnerships with HBCU's Houston Scholars have received approximately 1.9 Million dollars in scholarships.

The 5 Strong Scholarship Foundation – Houston was established in 2020 to increase college access and success for high-achieving, under-resourced students throughout the Houston metropolitan area. Under the leadership of Executive Director Jeffery Taylor and Program Director Dr. Cheryl Lewis, the Houston program connects outstanding students with full-tuition scholarship opportunities at partnering Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) while providing comprehensive support from matriculation through graduation.

Building upon the vision of the national 5 Strong model founded by educator Andrew Ragland in 2015, the Houston program focuses on preparing students for college through mentoring, college readiness programming, leadership development, and ongoing academic support. Through strong partnerships with HBCUs and community organizations, 5 Strong Houston empowers promising student leaders to earn their degrees, graduate on time, and become leaders in their communities.

Please review these requirements before applying. Applicants who do not meet these requirements will not be considered.

To be eligible for the 5 Strong Houston program, all applications must:

• Reside in the Houston metropolitan area

• Be a current-year graduating high school senior

• Demonstrate the potential to be a leader in the classroom and on campus

• Have earned a GPA of at least 3.0

• Have a minimum ACT score of 19 or a combined SAT score of 990 for both Evidence-Based Reading and Writing and Math sections

• Commit to attending mandatory bimonthly college prep sessions

• Be available to attend all bimonthly College Ready Prep Sessions (in person in Houston when safe, remotely for now)

  * You must be interested in attending one of our HBCU Partner Schools (Langston University, Lincoln University (PA), Fisk University, Bennett College and Benedict College). Please do not apply if you're not interested in attending one or more of these HBCUs.
